K-4 Music
K-4 Music Program
Craig Williams is proud to partner with Education Through Music, Los Angeles (ETM-LA) to bring music instruction to our kindergarten through fourth grade students. As a result of Craig Williams partnering with Education Through Music – Los Angeles (ETM-LA), students in kindergarten through fourth grade receive 30-45 minutes of music instruction on a weekly basis that is aligned to the Visual and Performing Arts Standards. With this addition to our program, Craig Williams has become the only elementary school in the Bellflower Unified School District to offer music instruction in grades K-6. Students are learning how to keep a steady beat, the basics of rhythm, differences in voice, and learning about making music and movement. With a recent donation, our fourth graders will also be introduced to the ukulele.
The benefits of music in the school are far reaching. Music instruction has shown to improve language and reasoning, give students a sense of achievement, build imagination and intellectual curiosity, develop creative thinking, teamwork, responsible risk-taking, and improve self-confidence, communication, and attendance. Students are responding positively to the music instruction they have already received and are excited to attend music classes each week. By offering music instruction in grades K-4, students may continue their musical pathway into the upper elementary grades and into middle and high school to become true musical scholars.
In April 2019, ETM-LA partnered with Rob and Sharil Fukusaki and the Heads Up Youth Foundation to donate a class set of ukulele's to our fourth graders at Craig Williams. Our students were extremely excited to learn how to play the instrument.
